New Arctic Cat Snowmobiles Snowmobiling is DANGEROUS!!!!??
What? I really thought it was a pretty safe sport. I'm 15. Is it as dangerous or is there some kind of Anti-Snowmobiling clan?
I'm thinking about getting a new snowmobile from Arctic Cat. I have 35 acres of land with almost NO trees. We have saplings but no trees. I'm not gonna fly around at 120 mph, and I'm not gonna go snowmobiling on a cliff side. Is it unsafe for someone my age? Should I stop?
Yes, I do wear all my protective gear.
Anything is dangerous, a friend of mine got thrown off a snowmobile going only 40 and dislocated his shoulder and fractured several bones, so its definitely dangerous. To me its worth it though because its a lot of fun.
In order to have any fun, you have to take risks.

I say keep doing it
so my first question is can gas thats at least 5 years old fould the plugs? i got the sled out after its sat in storage for well over 5 years with the same gas and today i got it out and after pulling on it for a few minutes it fired up. it wasnt running 100% but my dad hopped on and tried to take a tiny little hill and killed it. and now it wont even sputter it just turns over so im thinking the gas has either foulded the plugs or that it needs new plugs.
and second its a 70 or 80 arctic cat el tigre 5000 and the skis little metal strip on the bottom of the skis are worn off and i was wondering what it takes to get that replaced because right now it dont turn to well on hard packed snow
yea there was maybe 1/8 of a gallon of old fuel left so we just wanted to burn it up
Gas goes bad in a month to 6 weeks without an additive. Even with an additive, I'm not sure it will last more than a year. I'm real surprised it even tried to start let alone run long enough to ride it at all. The carburetor is probably gummed up and it no doubt needs at least cleaned if not overhauled.
You can try removing the old gas and flush out the fuel tank, purge the fuel lines and drain the carburetor. Add fresh gas with an additive to help clean out the fuel system and replace the spark plug and see if it will start and run.
I LOVE Arctic cat snowmobiles! I now own a 2009 CFR 800 and wow the power is amazing and the more rider forward position is great. I totally agree with Mike on that i hope hibbert does influence cat to release more sno pro platforms like what ski-doo has done. I also agree with pappy on the TV media coverage of the snocross circuit. It is so terrible, they might televise a half dozen of the races. In closing i can't wait to see what arctic cat and hibbert will do in the future of racing and the snowmobile industry.
