Blk Yellow
Upgraded CPU. Old CPU Heatsink/fan had 3 wires (yel,red,blk). New one has 4 wires (blue,yel,red,blk)? Help.?
I recently upgraded my CPU, from an AMD Athlon 64 x2 4050 e, to an Athlon 64 x2 6000+. Now, the old CPU Heatsink/fan assembly had 3 wires in the order of yellow, red then black. New one has 4 wires in the order of blue, yellow, red then black. I can put the connection on the motherboard, but the blue wire would have nothing to plug into, the place where a pin should be is instead soldered in.
My question is: Can I run the new processor fan/heatsink without that blue wire? Or will it do something to fry my system. My assumption on its purpose is that it is something that regulates fan speed. If so can I jump it somehow to just always run at max?
Hey there!
Yes you can change fan speed, but only through the BIOS or through your operating system through a program.
You can also change it though special hardware with specially designed fans that allow you to change speed level by means of a rotary knob, but I doubt that you will have much use in that.
I reckon the fan will run just fine like that!
