Can an engine immobilizer be defeated by tampering or hotwiring?
I recently bought a Toyota Corolla. Is it possible for a thief to defeat the (non-remote start) OEM engine immobilizer system via hotwiring and steal the car? I've heard contradictory information.
Keep in mind: This is a 2006 Toyota Corolla and I'm referring to the OEM engine immobilizer (which is not really an alarm). In these systems, the key has a chip in it and unless the correct key is inserted, the car will not start. Can a vehicle like this still be hotwired? (If so, how easily?)
in my views TOYOTA's al arms are good if it is factory fitted....however one cant be 100% sure as thieves also acquire latest technology and means to disable a system.

It’s only easy if you have a straight-4, most V6 engines still take between two hours of work according to programs that mechanics use to evaluate the time (like ondemand5 and alldata). While it usually takes mechanics less time, if you’re not in a shop, it’ll probably take you at least that. Regarding whether it’s a problem or not, I’ll quote a guy on iATN:Excellent question. It is not so much the engine that”knows” the difference, it is the control system (PCM, fueltables, spark tables and calibration). The heat range, thelocation of the electrode, the firing voltage, burn line,heat disapation etc all matter. When we engineers spendthousands of hours during engine family development with anengine on a test dyno stand “dialing in the calibration” weuse the OEM plugs.Now, time for me to open up a can of worms. Often, theaftermarket plugs are actually constructed better than OEMplugs, but the engine’s PCM and calibration have been dialedin using the OEM plug (whether it is better or not, orplatinum, or iridium, or whatever) the fuel, spark, andperformance tables were set up with the OEM plug. I am 100percent sure that with time, the PCM “knows” the differenceif aftermarket plugs are used and the engine will (and does)run differently (note, I did not say worse, I saiddifferently and “often” it is worse, but not always worse).I grew up with the same myths and believed that moreexpensive plugs with fancy names and electrodes workedbetter until I proved it to myself on research dynamometertest stands with OEM engines. “Seasoned” engineers wouldexplain to me that OEM plugs worked better (Note, they didnot say they were built better), they said they “worked”better. I kept trying to prove them wrong, but over and overI just kept proving them right (it is hard to argue withdata and facts). So, I have proven it to myself onmulti-million dollar test stands and now make sure to usethe plugs, ignition components, etc recommended by the OEMwhen I work on customer’s vehicles.
Those are not O2 sensors. The are vaccuum lines that should be attached somewhere to your valve cover on one end, and your intaks is suppoese to have a nipple on it for the hose to attach on the other end. The check engine light is probably coming on because the hose is not connected. If it doesn't go off when you re-connect th hose, try to reset it. You can disconnect the battery for an hour or so, or take it somewhere to have it scanned and reset, like autozone, they do it for free.
