Right Side Trailing is it best to put your deer stand on the trail? like on the side.?
i have a deer stand set up in my woods at a creek kind of. but my dad said it is best to put it like on the road or trail or whatever you want to call it. like not right on it just like on the side of the road. he said that the deer have to cross the road to get to the creek. should i move my stand on the road to where i have a good long shot to two long roads where they will cross?
-thanks-
You dad is right. Somewhere slightly off the trail or road, so that deer will not see you. If you can make use of some natural ground cover, that would be a plus too.
The thing about tree stands is...deer do not have any natural enemies that will attack them from above (except for hunters in treestands!). So, animals like squirrels and groundhogs are always looking around and above them for eagles and hawks and other birds of prey that might swoop down and attack them. Deer generally do not think to look up for possible danger...so that is one of the advantages of a tree stand. The other advantage, of course, is that you have a longer field of view...standing on the ground is like being in a tunnel, once you have experienced hunting from a treestand.
