Snow Cat my cat has been sneezing yesterday after he went outside in the snow. but he does eat. what can i give him?
he went outside when it was snowing. then started to sneeze. he does eat, and i was trying to give him something warm. so i gave him some warm milk. but i read that milk was not good for cats. so what can i give him to make him feel better?
I don't think the sneezing is related to going outside. Colds are caused by viruses, not cold air and the same is true for cat colds. He could just have something in his nose tickling him. If he met another cat is it possible that he has caught a kitty cold, correctly called an upper respiratory infection (URI). If that's what he has there isn't much you can do other than giving him some TLC and making him comfortable. Sometimes the vet will give antibiotics to treat any secondary bacterial infection but if it's viral, which is usually is, the antibiotics won't do much good. If your cat is just sneezing I wouldn't be too worried. It will go away on its own.
If he gets congested and has trouble breathing you can help him feel better by putting him in a room, preferably a small room, with a vaporizer with some Vicks Vapor Drops in it. That usually works wonders when I have cats with URI. Sometimes they also like laying on something warm so you can get a heated cat bed or a heating pad and put some blankets on top of it. With a heating pad there should be several layers on top of it so that the kitty doesn't get burned when he sleeps. It's also important that your kitty eats and drinks enough. If he gets congested he may lose interest in food as he can't smell it so some stinky canned food warmed up in the microwave a bit usually does the trick. Don't give your cat milk. Cats are usually lactose intolerant and will get diarrhea and stomach aches from milk.
Just give him lots of TLC and he'll be fine.
