Snowmobile Skis Will riding on dirt, or low amounts of ruin the skis or track of a snowmobile?
Which one the skis or the track or both.
Yes, riding on dirt will cause the ski carbides to wear out quickly. This could result in loss of control, if you go into a corner fast, turn the handlebars and the sled goes straight because the carbides are worn down.
Riding on dirt also causes premature wear on the idler wheel bearings, suspension pivot points and wears out the plastic hyfax.
Also, riding on low snow conditions can cause a liquid cooled sled to overheat. The snow is thrown on the heat exchangers to cool the motor down.
