how do i make my 4 stroke go cart faster?
i have a 5.5 hp briggs and strat go kart i have read some answers to this
and some have said to use gearing some say bigger drive gear on tire others say smaller which is it? it has a comet 11 tooth main clutch sprocket and i think a 60 tooth on the tire 6" tires( 4x3.5-6)
Faster is a relative term, Do you mean you want a higher top end speed wise, or do you mean you want it to accelerate faster? So if you mean that you just want it faster put a smaller gear on the rear wheel (now you can only go so low until you begin lugging the engine down). If you want it to accelerate faster then add teeth to the sprocket on the rear wheel (of course if you get to big it will be bigger than the rear wheel).

What do I do when adding a new engine to a Go-Kart?
Okay. so here is the scoop...
I've had a go-kart now for quite sometime. It had a 6.5 hp robin engine on it, and I decided for myself that that just wasn't enough. So, I bought a new engine, an 11 hp honda-like engine. I've done all sorts of modifications to the mounting plates (still don't have it quite right, but I'm getting there) and have it in a good spot. But, whenever I go to test drive the thing, it has no torque. I literally have to hang one foot off the side and kick to actually put the thing in motion.
Any ideas? Just to say also, I kept the old chain, and am still using that, bought a new comet clutch, the 40 series (with the driven clutch), and am still using the old drive sprocket. I do, however, have a new sprocket on the driven clutch axle.
Anyway, that all, please help, b/c it has been an ongoing project!!!!!!
im not sure what to tell you really other than it sounds like there is something wrong with the engine or the drive clutch system. a big honda clone should get up really good. are you sure the distance between the driver and driven units is right? if they are too close for the belt you have that would do it. or maybe the engine has a clog somewhere? sounds weird to me. can you link a pic maybe?
