Snowmobile Engine Motor Electrical system for a golf cart?
My dad and I are replacing the engine in a golf cart with a bigger one from a snowmobile. The mechanics of the whole operation are taken care of, but we are not sure about the electrical system. the old engine used a starter generator to start and generate power for the lights and such, but the snowmobile engine has a standard starter motor and an alternator built in. We have no idea what kind of system it used for charging the battery. We have the regulator from the old engine and are wondering if we can use this. It is an old mechanical style one with three connections. D+, D-, and DF. Can we use a full wave bridge rectifier to convert the AC from the alternator into DC and then smooth it out with a capacitor and run that power into the old regulator? I'm not sure how to connect the regulator as we accidentally removed it before taking note of how it was connected. Basically I want it to be able to run the carts lights and recharge the battery after starting.
These labels mean Dynamo +, Dynamo - and Dynamo field. The plus and minus are the auxiliary output just for the regulator if there is a B+ on the alternator. The field is fed from the regulator, and this is the smaller wire or connection usually. The link below shows the connections. The ignition/charge warning light is necessary to get the alternator started.
The wire from B+ to the battery handles the full output current of the alternator.
The regulator connections are all 10A automotive wire.
The minus side of the battery is grounded at the engine body and this carries the full starter motor current. It is possible there is another ground connection for the lights etc. This goes to the battery negative.
There must be a connection between the battery and the alternator frame that can carry the full alternator output. This may be the engine body through the starter motor ground.
Some alternators have the regulator built in to the brush holders. The old mechanical regulator will only work if both are thesame voltage, like 12V.
If in doubt you can always get an auto electrician to do it. Do the wiring as you think and get them to "fix it", so the labour is less.

Can you put a radiator on a fan cooled snowmobile?
I am going to buy a snowmobile motor so i can put it in my golf cart and drive it in the summer. If I get a liquid cooled snowmobile engine and hook up a radiator to the heat exchangers and put coolant in it would that work? Could i do the same thing with a fan cooled motor? Please give me any and all insight you may have! Thanks!!!!
If you got yourself a liquid cooled engine you will be able to put a radiator.
You will not be able to liquid cool an air cooled engine.
I suggest the yamaha phazer engine. 500 cc 4 stroke with 80 hp. Yamaha quality, and it's liquid cooled. You can't just dbuy the engine you need the carbs and air box to go with it.
Complete Engine Gasket What is the difference between a "Complete Engine" and a "Engine Core"?
I am in the process of removing another engine from a car and installing another engine assembly. I never 100 percent knew what the Core engine was. I could be wrong but is the core engine just the block of the engine without any gaskets or anything? I have a engine that threw a rod but other then that everything else on the engine is still great. So if the engine core is just the lower block then shouldn't I be able to just buy the engine block or whatever and put the old engine parts "gaskets ETC" on the new engine core? This would beat buying a whole new complete engine assembly and would save me a few hundred bucks! So let me know exactly in detail what the engine core really is thanks a lot.......
Whoa, hold on a minute. A core is just a rebuildable piece, no mater what automotive piece you are buying. If you are buying a rebuilt motor then you need to supply the rebuilder with a replacement that he can rebuild for the next pearson.
Now what you are talking about is called a short block. That is just the lower part of the engine. You will be charged a core deposit when you pick up the engine and this will be refunded when you return a use able core in return.
Now as far as using the other parts to finish the engine off this is fine, but reusing old gaskets, now that is kind of foolish, a gasket set is fairly cheap and comes with all of the o rings & gaskets.

can you help me guesstimate the cost of rebuilding my 4.3l?
Ok my 89 chevy 4.3l is pretty well worn. I'd like to pull it, rejuvenate it and drop it back in. No mods or upgrades, just a standard rebuild on a stock engine.
My plan is:
complete gasket set
all new bearings and rings
new oil pump
new sensors
and take the heads to a machine shop and have them redo the valve guides and seats.
Assuming my internal parts are fine and I don't need any machine work other than the heads, can someone give me a ballpark? Would I be saving anything rebuilding myself or should I just use the motor as a core deposit?
Is there anything I am forgetting here?
>>>Assuming my internal parts are fine <<<
If that is the case, why tear it down anyway?
If the crank is within spec you can polish and re-use it. Same with the cam. Take the heads and the stem seals from the gasket kit and let the shop do those. They will check spring tension and replace as needed. On the block, be sure to remove all "freeze" plugs and flush the water passages very well. Be sure to clean all oil galleys as well. Unless replacing, keep the lifters and pushrods separated so they go back in the same bore.
It would really be wise to replace the pistons. The way the rings fit in the grooves is critical. Trying to re-use the chain and gears is a false economy also. A new chain and gear set is less than $20.00. You might also want to have the machine shop check the bore and repair as needed. An overbore isn't expensive at all.
Cost will depend on where you buy your parts and the machine work, but the parts you will need (minus crank and cam but including pistons) would be around 4 to 5 hundred bucks from my supplier.
If you look online, you can find some good deals on engine kits.
Piston Kit Pistons where can iget a cheap piston kit for kx125 1990?
i can't remember the name of the company, but I replaced my piston a couple years ago on an '86 kx125. They always advertised in the motocross action magazine, but I haven't read it in a while, so I'm not sure if they still do. Also, google Dennis Kirk, and Chaparral motorsports
Mini Snowmobile I want to take a mini road trip this weekend some where in or around colorado!?
Some place where there is affordable lodging, places for four wheeling and dirt bikes, or snowmobiles. I need a great rate. We are a bunch of kids 20 and up wanting to party too, so preferably some where in the middle of no where haha i.e. a cabin, lake house.. that sort of thing.
You could try the Electric Mountain Lodge in Paonia Colorado.
