Getting There Is Half the Fun! Capture Your Vacation Scenic Drive with In-Car Video
You’ve found the perfect vacation spot and will enjoy some of its beauty while driving to the destination. Why not preserve the expanding landscape view naturally as it reveals itself when you crest the next hill or round the next curve?
With the media storage costs of digital video rapidly decreasing even as high-definition quality increases, you can now add video content captured while driving to create a unique personalized memory of your vacation.
Just install an in-car camcorder mount, set your camcorder angle, and press record. Your camcorder records the scenery as you drive. You can add personal narration or simply enjoy music while you drive as the landscape’s view is recorded from your driver’s perspective.
Using simple video editing software, you can later edit out sections that you don’t want or mix-n-match still images, music, or narration along with the video to preserve your vacation drive. Or you could create a fun time-lapse video effect of your trip so that the drive appears to happen at hyperspeed. And what could be simpler than to share your experience with family and friends by uploading to Google’s YouTube?
Here are some additional Tips and Tricks for In-Car Video Capture:
Make sure your windshield is clean!
Set-up camera angle, perspective, and lens before you start driving and just let it record; you can always edit out / edit down content later.
Pick a good time of day for your shot; sunlight or headlight glare can be annoying in the footage as well as hard on your camcorder sensor.
Experiment with your camcorder's autofocus and stabilization features; some camcorders work better with these features enabled while others may perform worse.
Experiment with different lenses (wide-angle, telephoto) as well as with different lens filters. Depending on time-of-day and lighting, you can get some amazing effects in your shots.
Set-up creative camera angles for different shots: front-seat / out the windshield, front-seat / side-window, rear-seat / driver-in-shot, etc.
Try out your video editing software's time-lapse, slow-motion, and fast-motion functions for some fun shots of your drive.
Mix in still shots, narration, and other content with your in-car video, especially for outings or vacation drives. Video is just another medium to highlight your experiences.
Capture the atmosphere of coming upon a little town or a great landscape view when topping a hill. This is why it's important to keep your record on as you never know when a great scene is going to appear.
Enjoy your drive! This means not having to look for a place to pull over to set-up a still shot, not being distracted by your camcorder (which would be dangerous while driving), and not worrying about missing some great view (as it's being captured).
You will find several options for mounting a camcorder inside your car, including mounts that allow the use of your tripod, some that use suction cups, and some that mount to your headrest. Choose one that is easy to use and that securely holds your camcorder. And remember to relax and enjoy your vacation drive; you can review the memory later!

Medium Windshield How much leather is too much on a Suzuki GZ-250?
Right now I have medium size slant saddlebags, with a small matching sissybar bag. The bike does have a windshield. I was wondering if a fork mount tool bag, matching of course, would be overkill on a small bike like mine?
That depends on how you view yourself, and your bike. If you are comfortable with the look, go for it. I had just about the same set-up on my XL1200C, and got funny looks from other H-D riders since I was "dressing" a Sporty. I carried my rain gear in the sissy bar bag, and my lunch in the tool bag you are describing. (Never did cary any tools in it.)
I think a fork bag looks good. Especially with the windscreen. It just makes the bike look "together". I had to get rid of the tool bag on my new ride, an FXDWG, when I had a set of auxiliary lights installed. (The lights connect in the same place as the bag used to be.) I miss the fork bag. I always thought it looked cool.
I think one of the pictures on my 360 site shows my old Sporty with the tool bag. (No screen on that one.) I always thought it made the bike look better. Bag in the back, bags on the side, why not a bag in the front? Sounds good to me! If it works for you, do it. Take care, ride safe. Ciao!
Alternative Advertising Strategies At The Gas Pump
Gas pumps provide many great OOH opportunities to reach consumers. The progression of advertising displays has evolved very quickly; it began with the gas topper at the pump, then with the gas pump handle itself, and later with branding every item from the windshield squeegee to the trash cans. Today, with the introduction of digital advertising, you can reach a consumer with store specials or interactive information as they stand there with nothing to do. The unique and alternative out of home advertising possibilities are nearly limitless at the pump.
Benefits of the OOH Medium -
Unless you're targeting a major public commuter market (like New York or DC), almost every consumer needs gas. And rarely is an audience more captive than at the gas pump, standing around with nothing to do but wait. An entertaining ad serves as a welcomed distraction. In fact, many consumers see gas pump advertising as informative and entertaining rather than obtrusive.
Another benefit of the medium is the ability to stand out. Advertisers don't have the clutter at the pump like they do inside the convenient store, where they have to compete with on-product displays and other in-store advertisements. The gas pump provides a center stage opportunity for your brand's messaging.
How this OOH Medium is Used -
There are a number of different possibilities for the type of messaging that can be used -- and for the audience that can be targeted -- with gas pump advertising. Depending on the location of the gas station, you can target commuters, soccer moms and family vacationers with messages geared specifically toward them. Targeting by location is a great way to reach certain types of demographic groups. Is there a big mall nearby with a theater? What about a popular health club where your demographic group would work out? The location is the most important determining factor with gas pump advertising. And since gas stations are such a necessity, they are not limited to any geographic area, making it possible to target any demographic.
If the digital or interactive screens are used, you might even focus your messaging by specific times of day. You could plan your messaging to reach morning and evening commuters, after school kids or moms in the afternoon. Since many busy professionals hit the pumps on their lunch break, you could even reach hungry consumers with delicious lunchtime messaging.
Some great campaigns have used station domination to reach their customers by putting messages on the pumps, window squeegees, trash cans, floor mats and in the car wash! It's a perfect environment for capturing attention.
Of course, if you advertise where your products are sold, point-of-purchase is another way to use gas pumps. However, more types of advertisers are discovering gas pump advertising because they know the consumer is probably on his or her way to another buying opportunity. Automotive, Internet, financial and insurance are some of the industries that have jumped on board with gas station advertising.
Unfortunately, there are currently no standard guidelines for measuring an ad campaign executed at the pump. However, you may be able to monitor your specific product sales in the gas station store if you're planning a point-of-purchase campaign. You can also monitor sales within a specific radius of the gas pumps where you are advertising.
New Technology -
Some of the new technology is evident in the interactive displays, as well as in the materials. Ads are protected from the elements so their messages can last a long time. There are also some opportunities for audio capability. Gas pumps with digital video screens provide many interactive options that are generally welcomed by consumers while waiting at the pump.
OOH Markets / Demographics Available -
Advertisers can reach just about any market with gas pump advertising, especially if you target a regional or national gas chain with your messaging. Many media companies offer national and regional campaigns for gas station advertising. For a listing of these companies near you and for pricing, contact an alternative advertising company.
