Rev Snowmobile why dose my snowmobile grab belt at 5000 rpm and when it does it slips and burns the belt ?
i just got a 1995 polaris indy xlt touring it has been siting outside for a couple years. it will start up ok but it dosent idel the rpm slowly dies away to 0 but if i stick somthing in the gas so its held a 1000 or so then it does fine. i hit the gas and it just revs up then when it get to 4500-5000 rpm it takes the belt but dosent move. if i give it more gas it will slowly move but it smells like burning rubber and i see the belt sliping. and the steering is stuck it feels locked the skis will move some if i move them by hand and when i do that i see the steering move just a hair. but when i grab the handel bars and try to steer they feel locked i wd-40ed the hole steering system but it dident help. what should i do for all this ?
You need a jack-stand under the back of the sled so that the track is off the ground. Remove the drive belt and turn the secondary clutch to make sure the track is free.The gas is very likely old in the fuel tank and should be removed. **Field strip the carburetors and make sure the pilot jets are clean. If the tiny hole in center of the pilot jets are plugged you'll never get any throttle response and you'll wind up burning a hole in one of the pistons.
Primary and secondary clutch should come apart for cleaning and lubrication. If you're not familiar with Polaris clutches, take the sled to a dealer or find someone who does know how to overhaul them.

We have only been dating since new years eve, but we have known each other for a few years, but we didn't really start hanging out or talking much till around november of 2010. He is 20 years old and a motor head, lives in the garage and loves beer. He is also a country boy into snowmobiles trucks cars you name it he likes it. He says and i quote. "im not telling you but ill give you a hint. its big." thats the only hint i could get out of him for my gift.
I need some ideas. What is going to make this year a little difficult is im having a minor surgery on 2/11. bad timing i know. So if you have any ideas please let me know!
