Wiring Harness

Wiring Harness?
Ok my boyfriend has a 2.3 Turbo motor out of a 1983 Ford Thunderbird. The motor has the distributor and the injectors BUT we need the wiring harness to wire the distributor and everything up. We cannot find a wiring harness to save our lives. NO ONE seems to have it. Does anyone know of any websites that I could possibly find one??? I think the turbo motor we have can work for a mustang too. An 83-85 2.3 Turbo motor from a Thunderbird or a Mustang. Please Help!!

Trailer Wiring Harness Install, Toyota Tacoma - etrailer.com
If I have an aftermarket car stereo, do I need to get a vehicle wiring harness for a new one?
I already have an aftermarket (Pioneer) car stereo in my Jeep with a vehicle-specific wiring harness. I am getting a new car stereo (Alpine) and need to know if I need to get another wiring harness with the new Alpine stereo, or can I just use my existing one?
Thanks all in advance!
aftermarket radios already come with a wiring harness to plug into their radio, so all you need to do is snip of the one connected to your pioneer and connect the alpine wires to the current wiring harness.

One Response to “Wiring Harness”

CAN is being used in most of the automotive industry because it allows all of the controllers to share signals and reduces size, weight, and complexity of wiring harnesses. Frothy had a good explanation. Generally a car will have a Master Vehicle Controller, and then sub components will have satellite controllers. Sub-components range from Engine Control Module, to the Body control Module, to a battery controller. For the most part all controllers see all messages but just pick out the ones they need. They do this by using the message IDs frothy mentioned. Each message has a couple different parts one being the ID another the message and i think some other informative bits. Put very simply, you’ll need to read in a peddle position and convert that to a torque or power demand for the motor and send that over CAN to the controller. You’ll need to get the pin out of the connector to the controller as well as find out the type of connector it uses. Also ask for the .dbc file as this is the CAN database used by the controller and will give you message ids and other information about the signals the motor will look for as well as signals it will send out (such as temp, rpm or other diagnostics). I wasn’t directly involved with the controls but I helped on a similar project and i know we used Motohawk/MotoTron controllers and their Vector CANcase tools to set up the network. sorry this is a little scatter brained but hope it helps a bit.
