Yamaha Vmax Snowmobile
What is a high mileage for a snowmobile? When do they seem to just not work?
My brother may buy a 1995 Yamaha Vmax 600 with about 4,900 miles on it. Is that too many miles? The seller takes care of his snowmobiles but i don't know what to tell my brother. please help
4900 miles on a well mantained sled is ok...but the key is that the thing be mantained and items be replaced as needed. i wouldn't buy a sled with that mileage without checking the track for wear, the jackshaft bearings for wear, and looking at all fluids to see if they are clean.
if any of this stuff isn't up to snuff i'd pass on it.
don't know where you are but i know in ny you can buy older used sleds with 2-3k on them for less than $2000.
ideally look for a sled that still looks new, has under 3k miles and passes the tests i listed above! if, on the other hand the one your brother is looking at runs and is selling for peanuts...what the heck!!
oh...and then hope for snow!
